The Coach Engine is the coaching brain behind ChessCoda. It's what turns a finished game into a lesson you can actually use.
What it does
For any game you bring in, the Coach Engine looks for the one moment that decided it, then explains in plain terms why it was easy to miss: the threat you didn't check, or the idea you hadn't met yet. It keeps that explanation at your level, so you're never handed deep engine lines you can't use. And it takes the mistakes worth learning from and brings them back later as practice, so the pattern has a chance to stick.
Why it's ours
The hard part of a chess coach was never evaluating a position. Software has done that well for years. The hard part is coaching a person: knowing what to say, what to leave out, and what's worth working on next. That coaching layer is the part we build, and it's what the Coach Engine is. It gets a little sharper with every release.
How it works
Under the hood, the Coach Engine evaluates each position far beyond human depth, and it weighs what a player at your level would most likely do. The space between those two — what's objectively best and what you'd actually play — is where the lesson lives. That's the gap it turns into plain-language coaching.
