Terms of Service

Last updated: 4 July 2026

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

ChessCoda is a chess analysis and coaching service operated by Maritacas OÜ, a company registered in Estonia. These terms govern your use of ChessCoda at chesscoda.com. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. The service

ChessCoda analyzes chess games you import and provides statistics, coaching commentary, insights, and practice material. Analysis and coaching are informational tools to support your training: they reflect automated evaluation of your games, may contain errors, and are not a guarantee of accuracy or of any particular improvement in your results. We continuously develop the service, and features may change over time.

3. Your account

You need an account to use ChessCoda. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You must be at least 16 years old, or have the consent of a parent or guardian, to use the service.

4. Your content

The games you import remain yours. By importing them, you grant us the permission needed to store, analyze, and display them back to you as part of providing the service. You are responsible for having the right to import the games you provide. When you connect a Lichess or Chess.com username, we fetch games those platforms make publicly available; your use of those platforms is governed by their own terms.

5. Acceptable use

  • Don't attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the service or other users' data.
  • Don't misuse the service — including scraping it, reselling it, or using it in ways that violate applicable law.
  • Don't use ChessCoda to cheat in games in progress. It is a training tool for reviewing finished games.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

6. Plans and billing

  • Free plan. Parts of ChessCoda are free to use, as described on our pricing page.
  • Subscriptions. Paid plans are billed in advance (monthly or yearly) through our payment provider, Stripe. Prices are shown in euros and include VAT where applicable.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from your account settings; your plan then remains active until the end of the period you have paid for. Your statutory rights, including any applicable withdrawal rights under EU consumer law, are not affected.
  • Price changes. If we change prices, we will give you reasonable advance notice before the change applies to your next billing period.

7. Intellectual property

ChessCoda — including its software, design, and generated coaching content — is owned by Maritacas OÜ or its licensors and is protected by law. We build on open-source chess software, acknowledged on our open-source page. These terms don't grant you any rights to our trademarks or branding.

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties — express or implied — about the service, including its availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Maritacas OÜ is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Termination

You can stop using ChessCoda and request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate the service or your account for breach of these terms, or discontinue the service with reasonable notice.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. We will post the updated version here and adjust the date above; for material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you. Continuing to use the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in. Questions? Contact us at chesscoda-support@maritacas.io. See also our Privacy Policy.
